Overview

Every major seat of learning and education across the world is engaged in activities beyond the classroom and work towards becoming powerhouses of research and innovation. Students and faculty from various departments work in collaboration with each other and with the government and industry to carry out research in various areas. We, at BITS Pilani are engaged in several such programmes through centres instituted for the purpose.

Our centres are involved in varied activities ranging from Software Development and Robotics to Women's studies and Desert Development Technologies

Centre for Software Development

Effective resource utilisation across different locations when the numbers involved are large is always a challenge. We have several thousand students and faculty spread across our 4 campuses. When the students in our off-campus work integrated learning programme are included, the challenge grows manifold. The Centre for Software Development (CSD) and the Centre for Educational Technology came together to form the Software Development & Educational Technology Unit (SDET) with a mandate to identify, evolve and deploy appropriate technology to address this issue.

Technology Business Incubator

What differentiates us, BITS Pilani from other universities is our belief that technical knowledge needs to be complemented with other skills and abilities in our students for successful entrepreneurship. With a view to promoting both, the University, along with the Government of India has established a Technology Business Incubator (TBI) in the area of Embedded Systems and VLSI Design and a Centre for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL) to give a specific boost and emphasis to entrepreneurship development. The two units promote entrepreneurial leadership across all disciplines, facilitate entrepreneurial activity amongst students, and invite entrepreneurs to use TBI services to develop end products for commercialization
