About us

13 faculty members. 2 Professors, 3 Associate professors, 8 Assistant professors, with expertise spreads across theoretical and experimental condensed matter Physics, Optics and Spectroscopy, General relativity, High Energy Physics.  Average student intake is 35 per year in M.Sc (Hons) Physics.  Eleven Ph.D students and one postdoctoral fellow are working in different research areas.  The department offers all core courses of Physics and many electives both in Physics and in inter-disciplinary areas.

Dr. B.Harihara Venkataraman, Assistant Professor awarded "Bharat Jyothi Award and Glory of India Gold Medal" in the year 2012.
 
Dr. Souri Banerjee, Professor awarded "Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellow" in the year 2012.
 
Dr. Sarmistha Banik, Assistant Professor awarded Alexander von Humboldt  Fellowship in the years 2007-2008 and 2010.
