Embarking on a journey of knowledge at BITS Pilani, I began as a Lecturer in December 2000, evolving into the role of Assistant Professor until July 2010. The academic expedition continued as I assumed the position of Associate Professor until January 2013, and since February 2013, I've had the privilege of serving as a Professor, contributing to the vibrant academic tapestry.

Administrative Positions in BITS Pilani

Proudly steering the academic realm at BITS Pilani, I currently hold the esteemed position of DLSC Chairperson in the Department of Physics since September 2014. Prior to this, from September 2012 to August 2014, I had the privilege of leading as the Head of the Department in Physics. In my extensive journey, spanning from December 2004 to September 2014, I also served as a Nucleus Member in the Admission Division, contributing to the institution's dynamic growth and success.

Academic Background:

Embarking on a journey of academic excellence, I earned my Ph.D. from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Prior to that, I delved into the intricacies of Electronics, specializing in a Master of Science at Jadavpur University. My academic foundation was laid with honors in Physics, graduating from the esteemed University of Calcutta. The roots of my educational journey trace back to West Bengal, where I received my schooling at Barasat Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School and Barasat Govt. High School.

Adding to the laurels, I proudly qualified for CSIR/UGC-NET and GATE in 1990, embodying a commitment to knowledge and academic accomplishment.

Post Doctoral Experiences

Embarking on an enriching academic journey, I immersed myself in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering at the illustrious IIT Kanpur from April 1997 to March 1998. Later, from April 1999 to November 2000, I embraced the vibrant academic atmosphere at Emory University's Department of Physics in the United States, further broadening my horizons and fostering a global perspective.

Research background:

Following the completion of my M.Sc., my academic journey led me to VECC-Calcutta, where I served as a research assistant in the Helium recovery division for a stimulating year. In 1991, I embarked on a research scholar role at IIT-Kanpur in the Nuclear Physics Laboratory, Department of Physics, working alongside Professor R.M. Singru. My focus was on experimental condensed matter physics, employing room and low-temperature Mossbauer spectroscopy to explore diverse materials such as industrial materials, ores, and metallic glasses. The culmination of this research resulted in my Ph.D. thesis, titled "Mossbauer Spectroscopic Study of Some Iron-Based Alloys, Metallic Glasses, and Minerals."

Subsequently, I delved into my first theoretical postdoctoral work in "The Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Department" at IIT-Kanpur under the guidance of Professor Nirupam Chakraborti. Here, I contributed to a DRDO project, focusing on the "Calculation of Ternary Alloys Phase Diagram." Prior to joining BITS-Pilani in December 2000, I further honed my expertise as a postdoctoral fellow in the Physics Department at Emory University, Atlanta, for a compelling couple of years. This diverse journey has enriched my understanding and passion for the intricate realms of materials science and physics.
