Prof. Jayanty Subbalakshmi was born in Anakapalle, Visakhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh. She completed M.Sc., in 1997 with distinction, specialization in Physical Chemistry from Andhra University. She received M. Phil degree in 1998 and Ph.D. degree in 2004 from the School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad under the Guidance of Prof. T. P. Radhakrishnan. After completing her Ph.D., she moved for postdoctoral study at the Research Institute for Electronic Science (RIES), University of Hokkaido, as a JSPS fellow funded by The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).

She joined BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad Campus in 2009 as a lecturer and very soon promoted as Assistant Professor in November 2009, to Associate Professor in 2015, currently she is a full professor since April 2023. She is a recipient of the Best researcher award in 2004 by Dr. K.V. Rao Research Society. She received Distinguished Women in Science award (Major area of study: Chemistry) in 2019 by the The Venus International Foundation. She has over ~ 43 publications in the reputed international journals. She has been granted 5 patents. Some of her works recognized and received best poster awards in various international conferences. She has contributed 2 book chapters “Synthesis and characterization of templated polyanilines: A new class of polymeric materials” in Functionalized Engineering Materials and Their Applications , 2018. Apple Academic Press, CRC, Taylor and Francis Group. Another as chapter 13 “Tetracyanoquinodimethane based small organic molecules as potential memristor and solar cell devices in Miniaturized Electrochemical Devices Advanced Concepts, Fabrication and Applications” in CRC/Taylor and Francis, 2023.

She completed over 3 major government funded projects as a Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator. Currently, she is a Co-Investigator in the ongoing Indo-Austria project funded by MST-DST.  She has 25 years of research experience and 15 years of teaching experience. Her research interests are in the design, synthesis, characterization and application of small organic molecules based on D-pi-Acceptors such as Tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ), Tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) and Xanthenes for molecular material and biological applications. She is a life member of several scientific societies like “Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI)”, “Material Research Society of India (MRSI)”, “Society Materials Chemistry (SMC)”, Bhabha Atomic Research Center, BARC Mumbai, Indian JSPS Alumni Association (IJAA).
