Beco- Leader in Eco-Friendly Market

Aditya Ruia (Pilani, ’13) is the co-founder of Beco, a sustainable and personal care brand. The start-up uses biodegradable material to manufacture daily use products. The start-up recently raised $3 Million in Series A Round of funding and will use it towards the research and development activities, marketing and supply chain functions.

It all started from a regular weekend beach clean-up where we came across a plastic chocolate wrapper, which was discontinued back in the 1990s. The fact that every plastic article used today will actually come back was a harsh reality check that led us to find a solution to use Bamboo that eliminated plastic from the daily essentials altogether and as a result, Beco came into existence.

Founded in 2019, we aim to make sustainable living convenient by providing easily accessible and affordable products for Indian consumers. One of our key guiding lights in our mission is in fact in tandem with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals - Creating a clean life below water as well as on land, for humankind and animals alike. By investing in sustainable raw materials and processes in everything from product development to packaging, we have taken the first and perhaps the most crucial step in our mission. A huge part of it also involves implementing effective waste-reduction and management systems across various stages of production and channels. In simple words, recycle & reuse, wherever and whenever possible. In the upcoming year, Beco is well on its way to clocking a massive growth with expansion into 10,000 offline retail stores across the country. Furthermore, the company will be widening its product range to include a new set of cleaner products and an all-new personal hygiene care category, which will include products such as multipurpose spray, bathroom cleaner, and laundry detergent sheets. With the Indian eco-friendly product market that has seen a steady growth of 73% over the last 5-7 years and trending upwards, Beco is poised to become the market leader in this domain. The fund infusion will be directed towards Beco’s R&D (product innovation, development in sustainability) efforts, Marketing, and Supply Chain function, as well as focussing on talent acquisition across verticals to boost growth.
