About the Faculty
 
Dr. Mrinal Jagirdar's doctoral work was in the field of "microchannel flow-boiling" which he conducted under the supervision of Prof. Poh Seng Lee. The distinguishing feature of his doctoral work was that he studied transient heat transfer variables (in contrast to conventional studies involving only time-averaged variables) and correlated it to different phases of flow-boiling phenomena that were captured synchronously (using a high-speed camera) with sensors' data.
 
His first post-doctoral fellowship was under the guidance of Prof. Poh Seng Lee and Prof. Ghim Wei Ho at NUS. He worked on "Low-grade heat driven quasi-isothermal desiccant-based dehumidifiers". The project was executed in collaboration with Daikin Air-conditioning (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.. He developed a comprehensive mathematical model of desiccant coated heat and mass exchangers and designed a prototype unit (Technology Readiness Level 6) that was retrofitted to a central air-conditioning unit at a Daikin show-room in Singapore.
 
His second post-doctoral fellowship was under the guidance of Prof. J.A.M. (Hans) Kuipers and Dr. E.A.J.F. (Frank) Peters at TU/e. He worked on a research-cum-consultation project that was fully sponsored by the industry. He developed a mathematical model and simulation tool to design and estimate the performance of advanced 3-sector desiccant wheels coated with a desiccant material having an unconventional adsorption isotherm.
