The Ph.D. program is the highest degree offered by the Mechanical Engineering department at BITS Pilani, Dubai campus. The objective of this program is to breed, nurture and produce next generation industry leaders or high quality academicians. Primary emphasis is on independent research under the supervision of a faculty member using either in house facilities or through collaborative means. The choice of topic depends on the interest of the prospective candidate, relevance in the chosen field, novelty of research and practical feasibility in terms of time and available resources. They also gain valuable experience through the teaching program requiring them to teach a topic in a related undergraduate course. A Ph.D. candidate is expected to do high quality research, present their research at various national and international conferences, publish in well-known peer reviewed journals and develop networking skills necessary for developing collaborative research. A minimum of two publications are expected in order to graduate which is through a final Ph.D. dissertation seminar in presence of an external examiner. Students graduated from the department with Ph.D. degrees are all well established in their careers.
