Alumni Mentorship Program: Mentorship of, by and for BITSians

In the dynamic landscape of education, mentorship has emerged as a crucial factor in guiding aspiring individuals toward their desired career paths. Recognizing the significance of mentorship, the Student Alumni Relations Cell (SARC) at BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus has introduced two impactful initiatives – BITS2MBA and BITS2Research alumni mentorship programs. These programs, aim to provide personalized guidance to pre-final and final-year students navigating the challenging realms of pursuing an MBA or engaging in Research.

BITS2MBA: Forging Future Business Leaders

The BITS2MBA program, launched in mid-September in collaboration with BITSAA, is designed for students at BITS Pilani who aspire to pursue an MBA from esteemed institutions in India or abroad. The program involves a cohort of 50 mentees paired with 10 accomplished mentors, each with a wealth of experience in the business and management domain.

The mentors, comprising of professionals like Sarthak Garg, Kushagra Agrawal, Shivam Kumar, Kopal Srivastava, Greeshma Pasham, Sparsh Dhingra, Rushil Desai, Anish Kambhampati, Mohammed Abdul Rahman Khan, and Viren Jindal, bring a diverse range of expertise to the table. These mentors, with backgrounds in finance, consulting, and entrepreneurship, share insights gained from their journeys, providing invaluable perspectives to the mentees.

The mentorship program, scheduled to conclude at the end of January, unfolds over 4-5 personalized sessions for each mentee. This individualized approach ensures that students receive end-to-end guidance on the MBA application process. From crafting a compelling resume to acing interviews, the mentorship program covers all facets of the application journey.

The BITS2MBA initiative extends beyond mere advice, fostering a mentor-mentee relationship that goes beyond the program's timeline. This not only prepares students for the rigorous MBA application process but also instills a sense of confidence and resilience necessary for success in their chosen fields.

BITS2Research: Bridging the Gap in Research Opportunities

In parallel, the BITS2Research program, although not in collaboration with BITSAA, addresses the needs of 100+ applicants seeking research internships or off-campus thesis opportunities. With 13 mentors, the program, launched in mid-October, provides a platform for pre-final and final-year students to explore and navigate the intricacies of the research landscape.

This initiative runs until February and encourages mentees to raise queries regarding the application process, seek Statement of Purpose (SOP) or Letter of Recommendation (LOR) reviews, and engage in peer-to-peer mentoring. The community structure encourages the collaborative building of a resource repository, empowering both mentees and mentors to contribute to a wealth of knowledge for those interested in academia and research.

SARC's BITS2MBA and BITS2Research alumni mentorship programs stand as a testament to the institution's commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals capable of excelling in diverse professional spheres. By leveraging the expertise of BITS Pilani's alumni network, these programs not only provide practical insights but also create a supportive community for students to navigate the intricate pathways toward their aspirations. As the programs continue to make a lasting impact, they exemplify the power of mentorship in shaping the leaders and researchers of tomorrow.
