The Institute is fully residential and hostel accommodation is provided to all students. Permission to become day-scholar may be granted only under exceptional circumstances where student’s parents or close relatives are residents of Pilani. There are eleven hostels for boys and one hostel complex for girls. The hostel rooms are fully furnished. Common room facilities with Cable TV and telephone are available in each hostel. Internet connectivity has been provided in all hostel rooms. Solar water heating systems are provided in all the hostels.
There is a common kitchen cum mess unit for every set of two boys’ hostels. Girls’ hostel, however, has a separate mess of its own, situated within the boundary of the hostel. It is mandatory for the students staying in the hostel to have their food in the Hostel Messes. The messes attached to hostels are fully managed by the students.
A large number of scholarships, fellowships and other financial assistance are available to the students of the institute.
Institute Merit and Merit-cum-Need Scholarships
Students admitted to Integrated First Degree Programmes are eligible to receive these awards. The merit awards cover reimbursement of full semester fees and admission fees for top ten students of each batch, and 50% or 25% semester and admission fees for those selected for Merit-Cum-Need awards. In favor of the merit awards, students are automatically considered, and students desirous of being considered for the merit-cum-need awards need to apply each semester in response to the concerned notice. On an average, these awards benefit a little over 20% of the students. All awards are made for one semester only, and their continuance in the subsequent semester depends upon the candidate’s performance in the institute.
Student Aid Fund
Some financial assistance may also be obtained from this fund. These awards are made normally in the second semester only. Students have to apply for this assistance in response to a notice.
Other Scholarships & Aids
Student Welfare Division also forwards applications from students for scholarship/ financial aid to external agencies. The Division, in case of special need, tries its best to help the students, by all possible means.
EWYLP
Various schemes operate under the Earn While You Learn Programme (EWYLP) from which financial assistance is available. These include magazine distribution, service in supermarket ‘Akshay’ or in the library. EWYLP operates through Community Welfare Unit.
Professional Assistantship
Some students are selected as Professional Assistants each semester for laboratory work, office assistance etc. The selection and operation of the assistantship is done through Instruction Division.
Student Welfare Division maintains the record of all student dues. While tuition and other fees are to be paid before the beginning of each semester, mess, electricity and other departmental dues are to be regularly paid from 15th to 25th of each month. Monthly dues are displayed on the SWD notice board as well as on the SWD website, and are intimated by e-mail. Payment of tuition and other fees, payable at registration time, is possible before registration day by Demand Drafts on United Commercial Bank (code- 0150), Vidya Vihar Branch, Pilani or State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur (code-1398), Pilani. Cheques drawn on any of these two banks can be used to pay mess and other monthly dues. When dues are paid through cheques of local banks, the payment shall be valid subject to realization of the cheque. Withdrawal forms of UCO Bank, Vidya Vihar or State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, BITS Extn, can also be used for the payment purpose. Students, who fail to pay their dues by the announced dates, shall be required to pay at the time of next registration, an additional advance as per rules.
Games and sports are organized through the Sports Club. The Institute has on its rolls Physical Director, Senior Coach, Life Saver (both male & female), Martial Art Instructor and other supporting staff. Facilities for the following games and sports are available: Football, Hockey, Cricket, Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, Badminton, Table Tennis, Athletics, Gymnastics, Health Club, Swimming, Water Polo, Weight lifting etc. Besides organizing routine activities in above-mentioned sports, the Sports Club also conducts the BITS Open Sports Meet (BOSM) in the First Semester every year in which several outstation teams participate.
Health club is equipped with advanced exercising machines for weight training and aerobic exercise floor. A 25 x 12.5 m swimming pool provides facility for learning swimming, playing water polo and racing. Students can become members of Swimming Club/Health Club on payment of prescribed fees.
Each hostel also has facility for volleyball, table tennis, badminton, chess, carom, etc.
While the actual management of student activities is the responsibility of the Union & other bodies, the Division provides necessary support. The Students’ Union operates various clubs, including Music, Dance, Hindi Drama, English Drama, Hindi Press, English Press, Creative Activities, Mime, Photography, and Poetry Clubs, English Language Activities Society, and Hindi Activities Society. There are also several departments, which help organize various student events.
Traditionally students organize OASIS, a cultural festival sometime during the days adjoining Dussehra or Diwali. The students also organize A Professions-Oriented Gathering over Educational Experience (APOGEE), an Academic Week during the Second Semester, which may be aptly described as the academic get-together of the University Youth.
A classical music circle called ‘Ragamalika’ aims at encouraging budding talent among the students in music and dance. It also arranges performances by leading artists in the field of classical music and dance. In addition there is also a BITS Pilani Chapter of SPIC-MACAY, which organizes programmes to promote Indian classical music and culture amongst youth.
BITS being an all-India Institute, there are also regional associations like Maurya Vihar, Sangam, Andhra Samiti, Tamil Mandram, Maharashtra Mandal, Moru Chhaya etc. conducting several special programmes on festivals.
Recreational Activity Forum (RAF) that comes under the Student Welfare Division regularly organizes film shows for the BITS community. Currently, RAF organizes twelve, English and Hindi movies each, through the semester.
Each hostel has Resident and Non-Resident Wardens drawn from the faculty whom students may approach for advice or assistance. Students may also contact Hostel Superintendents, who are provided with accommodation within the hostel, for any sort of help.
Every student is also assigned a Faculty Advisor/Mentor soon after the admission, who can be contacted for advices related to academics and other matters.
Students are also free to contact the Dean SWD directly in case of problems or if seeking advise.
Travel Concession
The Railways, Airlines, and some nationalized Roadways permit students to travel on ‘concessional’ fares provided they produce Travel Concession orders issued by the Institute. The office of the Student Welfare Division issues such concession orders for various kinds of journeys by rail, which include, traveling to home town & back during semester breaks or summer vacations, traveling to places of practical training or to a Practice School Station, and traveling on behalf of the Institute as a representative.
ID Card
Every student upon admission is issued an Identity card by SWD at the beginning of every academic session with validity up to the end of that session. In case of loss of ID card student should immediately inform to SWD office about the loss. Duplicate ID cards are issued on application along with the prescribed fees.
Health and swimming club also require separate ID cards, than the normal ID cards issued to the student, every academic year. These ID cards are also provided to the students, seeking membership to the desired club, by SWD.
Certificates/Attestations
Student Welfare Division provides Bonafide, residence proof, CGPA conversion, expenditure, etc certificates, to the students, on request. Also, students can get their various documents attested, at or by help of SWD.
Free high-speed Wi-Fi internet is provided to students on all our campuses.
Separate Hostel facilities are provided for both boys and girls. The accommodation is suitably equipped to provide a safe and secure living environment. Each Hostel is provided with a resident warden and other essential staff. The hostel rooms are fully air-conditioned and furnished. Both Vegetarian as well as Non-Vegetarian food is provided for the residents.
Students will be allotted single room accommodation in the on-campus hostels on first-come-first-served basis, based upon the date of receipt of hostel fee by cash/ cheque/ DD/ TT.
Room allotment will be made on an established procedure and the institute’s decision for allotment of rooms shall be final.

The campus fulfills the computing needs of students as required by current Information Technology’s demand.
There are 2 Compaq DL380, 3 DL320 servers, one ML350 server, one IBM Blade Center with 10 IBM Blade servers catering to the needs of the Campus at present. These are provided in the server room in the First Floor of the Main Block. The entire building is networked through CAT6 cabling. All the floors in the Main Block, Library, the Mechanical Block and all the 6 Hostel Blocks are connected through Fiber Optic cable to the Main Academic block. In all, there are 500 computers of various configurations in the campus at different locations, all linked in the network.
A Clinic is provided on the ground floor of the academic block in BPDC with a doctor and a nurse for first-aid treatment and emergency medical care. A vehicle is available for the clinic for transporting students to the hospital in cases of emergency.
It is mandatory for every BITS student to have medical insurance. The Students must submit at the time of admission the proof of valid health insurance which can be used in UAE. Please note that health insurance taken outside UAE is not acceptable since such card holders have to pay the full bill amount at the time of treatment in UAE hospitals and subsequently get the money reimbursed from the country where the insurance has been taken from. Hence, its advisable to obtain health insurance cards from UAE health insurance companies only. The institute has made arrangements with a leading insurance company to provide health insurance to their students at a reduced cost.
BPDC has a full-fledged cafeteria within the campus that enables all students to have meals, snacks, soft drinks and hot beverages. There is a grocery within the premises and vending machines for snacks & hot/cold beverages are provided across the campus at various locations.

BITS-Pilani has established its fourth campus in the city of Hyderabad. The institute is spread over an area of 200 acres, located in Jawaharnagar, Shameerpet Mandal, R R District, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, towards Karimnagar highway. The construction of the campus is planned with an outlay of about Rs. 270 crores to be completed in three phases. This campus started functioning from August, 2008 with the admission of 600 students. Around 700 bright minds are admitted every year into the first degree, higher degree and doctoral programmes. The campus is fully residential, housing over 2800 students. The campus is located on the Karimnagar Highway and is about 25 KMs from Secunderabad railway station; 40 KMs from Hyderabad (Nampally) railway station; 45 KMs from Hyderabad Imliban Central bus depot and 70 KMs from Hyderabad Rajeev Gandhi Airport.
The main building comprises of centrally air conditioned administrative offices, classrooms, laboratories and lecture theatres. Separate hostels for boys and girls as well as faculty residences are provided, apart from banking; medical and market facilities.
The Institute is fully residential and hostel accommodation is provided to all students. There are six hostels for boys and two hostels for girls.
There are two common kitchen cum mess units for all students. The mess serves vegetarian and non-vegetarian food and the units operates under the management of 5 member student mess council. Students staying in the hostel have to necessarily take their food in the Hostel Messes. Every inmate of the hostel is provided with basic amenities like cot, table, chair, ceiling fan, cupboard. Each hostel is equipped with solar water heating systems. Common room facilities with Cable TV is available in each hostel. Internet connectivity has been provided in all hostel rooms.
Currently, the institute has facilities in Games & Sports:
- Outdoor Facilities: Football, Hockey, Basketball (Synthetic Acrylic surface), Tennis (Synthetic Acrylic Surface), Volleyball Courts and Throw ball (for Girls).
- Indoor Facilities: Foosball,Table Tennis, Carom, Chess, Billiards and Badminton (wooden Courts).
- A Well-equipped Gym (Separate for Boys & Girls) is also Operational that can handle 70-80 students at a time.
- Cricket ground.
- Other Recreational facilities like Dance club,Music club, Painting,Photography and Dramatics etc. are available in the Student Activity Center.
A medical center has started functioning, and is providing medical facilities for students and staff around-the-clock. Two male doctors along with compounder cum lab-technician and a sister reside on campus, for any consultation. The medical center has an ECG machine and facility to check the blood sugar. Some basic equipment is available and shortly many more facilities will be added. The medical center has arrangements with Medicity Hospital, Medchal, for any emergency situations.
Telephones :
Faculty chambers and houses are equipped with IP phones with local, and STD facilities. Calls on these phones can be made using the Intranet (campus LAN). Tata PRI lines are being used for connecting these IP Phones to external world. The voice solution has two gateways or call managers from Avaya that supports redundancy at the gateway level. It also runs a call billing software that generates reports on individual usage. Each hostel common room has also an IP Phone for receiving calls from outside.
Internet, Email and Web :
Institute has 6 IBM Blade servers for the purpose of Email, Web, and DNS. Also, a SAN box is available for the backup operations. The campus LAN is built by using three tire architecture i.e. core, distribution, and access. CISCO switches are being used for building the campus LAN to connect eight hostels of around 2600 rooms, 130 staff quarters, lecture theatre complex, administrative block, and four academic blocks spreading across 200 acres of land. 10G Fiber backbone is used to connect end systems in a three tire architecture. Presently the Institute has 90 Mbps leased line from Tata Teleservices and Reliance Communications for internet conectivity. A web server (www.bits-hyderabad.ac.in) is hosted using Apache, Linux, php, and MySql that contains various institute related information. The LAN is connected to the Internet via a CISCO router. A Fortigate 1000A also is used to ensure protection from spam, URL filtering, and antivirus.
At the time of admission of Freshmen, the Institute organize an orientation programme in order to familiarize the new students with the highlights of the Academic Programmes at BITS and to give them an idea about their campus-life and co-curricular activities. The Vice Chancellor and senior faculty members meet the parents of Freshmen at an interaction session organized at the time of admission.
Faculty members act as Advisors and Mentors for groups of students to guide them in the registration process, and encourage them to discuss any matter-academic and non-academic with them during their stay at BITS. Students can also approach their wardens for any help or guidance related to academic or personal matters. hostels have Resident and Non-resident Wardens drawn from the faculty. In addition, there are Hostel Superintendents to assist the Wardens in matters related to the upkeep of the hostels and attending to the needs of the students.
A shopping complex of 15,000 s.ft has been built and is open to cater to the shopping needs of the students and faculty.The facilities provided at the shopping complex are :

Books are depositories of knowledge and hold a place of pride in every educational institution. The library in the Hyderabad Campus is a new building spread over 45,000 sq. ft and two floors and a seating capacity of over 400.
The library has a collection of 20000+ books and subscribes to over 115 Indian and 60 foreign periodicals. Students can have access to over 3500+ e journals. We subscribe to 24×7 e- books database where students and faculty members can have access to over 15000+ e books.
BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad Campus has established an advanced research laboratory for pharmacy, chemistry and biology. Measurement techniques lab in biology, chemistry, physics, and microbiology lab are currently being established. During the second year of operation, labs such as central analytical lab, physics research lab, pharma analysis lab, computer aided drug design (CADD) lab, VLSI CAD lab, and EEE practice lab are being setup. All other labs in civil, chemical, electrical, electronics,mechanical engineering will be operational soon. A 20-seat computer based language lab will be set up to strengthen the students communication skills.
The computing facilities currently available for both students and faculty at Information Processing Center Unit are as below :
Servers :
IBM eServer BladeCentre with SAN running Windows 2003 Enterprise edition and Linux with servers like Microsoft exchange for eMail, Apache for Web, Redhat Enterprise Compute server, and ftp servers.
Workstations :
IPC has 60 Lenovo thinkcentre Workstations in IPC Terminal Room 1 with additional graphics card running Windows XP and Redhat Linux 5.0. All the workstations are on the network and can connect to any of the compute servers. The workstations are located in IPC Terminal Room 1. The development tools available are: TC Plus, Jdk 1.3, Visual Studio 2008, Compilers (gcc/g++ & Sun’s JDK), Script Interpreters (Tcl/Tk, Perl 5.0, gawk). Other development tools include (GNU Assemblers, flex, flex++, X-Development tools), and graphical viewers (gsview, gimp, X-fig, xpdf, xdvi).
PCs :
IPC has around 200 Lenovo thinkcentre PCs (E4600 and E7400) in the IPC Terminal Room 2, 3, and 4 running Windows XP and Enterprise Linux with development tools like AutoCAD 2010 Inventor Professional, AutoCAD Revit Structures, AutoCAD Revit Architecture, AutoCAD Map 3D, AutoCAD Electrical, Visual Studio 2008, Jdk 1.3, TC Plus, SQL Server 2008, and McAfee Antivirus.
All users can work on Unix/Linux or Windows XP environments, subject to the availability of workstations at any point of time.
All these above computers are connected to uninterrupted power supply for safe operations. The Centre operates from 9.00am to 8.00pm on all days including Saturday and Sunday.
With these computing facilities, laboratory work for courses like Engineering Graphics, English Language Communication, and Computer Programming I, Computer Programming II, Electrical Science, and VLSI Design are being conducted. The centre is also being used by the students for their Internet usage across the disciplines. The center also manages the voice solution for the complete campus.
The workshop at BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus provides students with the opportunity to get hands-on training in basic manufacturing processes. Machines like lathe, shaper, grinding, milling, drilling and facilities for welding, fitting, carpentry, foundry-work, smithy-work, sheet metal-work, metrology and electroplating are provided. Each section is headed by qualified technical instructors.
The institute is fully residential. There are separate hostels for boys and girls providing accommodation for each student on campus. Hostel common rooms are equipped with recreational facilities like Table Tennis, Carom along with LED TV with Dish connection, newspaper and telephones. Hostels are provided with Aqua guard purified drinking water facility with water coolers for supplying drinking water and geysers for bathing. The hostels also have a badminton court which is well illuminated with solar lights.
There are two large sized dining halls with a seating capacity of 1200 students at a time. Each dining hall is well equipped with modern equipment and furniture. Both messes are run by outsourced mess contractors.
SAC is constructed in an area of 37,000 square feet. It is equipped with indoor sports facilities like badminton, table tennis, billiards, squash, carom, dance room and well-equipped gymnasium with all the modern training machines. The SAC has outdoor facilities like cricket ground net practice arena, football ground, volleyball courts, lawn tennis courts, basketball courts and a futsal court too. This facility helps in the overall development of all students.
There is a shopping complex inside the campus which provides the facilities of a supermarket, vegetable and fruit shop, cafeteria, gents saloon, beauty parlor, laundry, book store and stationery shop. HDFC bank has provided the ATM facility in the campus. Along with this, the State Bank of India (SBI) has provided ATM as well as its branch inside the campus itself. This bank branch provides for all the banking requirements of the residents.
The medical centre provides for the primary medical needs of the residents. It provides 24*7 emergency care services for all its residents through a dedicated medical team. The medical centre has all the modern equipment like syringe pumps, ultrasonic therapy, defibrillator and much more. Specialists are available on routine as well as on call basis. The institute is empanelled with corporate, private hospitals and Goa medical college for higher care.
Excellent facilities are available for boarding and lodging on payment at Visitor’s Guest House (VGH) built in the southern corner of the campus. The VGH allows visitors to have a comfortable stay by providing all the requisite facilities.
