Team deGerm from BPDC wins 4 Awards in 4 different countries at the recently held Techstars Startup Weekend Covid Edition 2020 between 24-26 April 2020. Organizers and partners for these events included representatives from Google for Startup, Amazon, Microsoft for startups, and a number of venture capitalists from these countries. The theme was to build sustainable solutions to tackle COVID-19 and beyond. Team deGerm: Karan Sharma, Kavya Parthasarathy,Dhruva Kanwar, Divya Sehgal (2nd Year CS), Jaskaran Singh Sethi(2nd Year ECE). Team deGerm has been awarded: Crowd-Fave Startup; Techstars Startup Weekend Australia; 2nd Position - Techstars Startup Weekend Thailand; 2nd Position - Techstars Startup Weekend Algeria; 3rd Position - Techstars Startup Weekend Sri Lanka.
BITSIANS awarded second and third prizes at the Techstars Online Startup Weekend Dubai, COVID Edition 2020, held between 16th April & 18th April 2020. Organizers and partners for this edition included representatives from Dubai Future Accelerators, LEAD Ventures, Microsoft for Startups in the Middle East, GetBee and DTEC Ventures. Second Position: Team Vision Health: Komal Harish (2019 CS Alumni), Shivangi Kewalramani (2019 ECE Alumni) and Sabiha Shaik (4th Year CS). Third Position: Team Moood: Parth Poply, Somil Mathur, Tushar Agrawal (4th year CS) and Kenish Shah (4th year Civil). The teams have been awarded legal consultations worth USD 9500 each, along with 3 months of free access to DTEC's coworking space and their mentorship programs.
Team SolarGridX bags the 1st place at STARTAD. StartAD organised their Startup Incubation program 2020, which was a 10-week immersive youth entrepreneurship program focusing on youth entrepreneurial capacity building and supporting the next disruptors of the UAE startup ecosystem and was held at the New York University Abu Dhabi. It came to an end this 20th April with the final pitching competition. The students were awarded a cash prize of $3000. Team SolarGridX had three students from our university, Hardik Bhatia(3rd Year, CS), Devansh Shah(3rd Year, CS) and Prashant Konda(4th year, CS).
Fourth year CS student Mr Mohammed Shoaib has secured 3rd place in the NYUAD 2020 Hackathon which was conducted between April 16th -19th 2020.The entire Hackathon was conducted online over Slack, Zoom and GitHub with participants and mentors joining from different countries across the globe. The application that was developed was BFit. BFiT for Be Focused in Training is a social web app that allows users to workout and have training sessions with their family, friends, or anyone who wants to stay fit and healthy.
"Hack on Health" Hackathon was organized by the Department of Health, Abu Dhabi Government in partnership with Abu Dhabi Digital Authority and IBM. Three students from our university - Neetesh Bhati (C.S. III Year), Sarthak Sethi (E.C. E. III Year) , and Yatharth Kher (C.S. III Year) participated and secured 1st Position. They received a cash prize of AED 30,000. They made an app "Salama" for the prevention of chronic diseases. This was done in line with the UAE's Artificial Intelligence Strategy. Date: October 2019.
Fintech Festival of MENA region. On 21-23 October 2019, organised by Abu Dhabi Global Market, FinTech Abu Dhabi welcomed over 5,000+ delegates from over 70 countries in Abu Dhabi. The Fintech Abu Dhabi Awards showcased the very best in global FinTech innovation across ten inspirational categories and Mr Hardik Bhatia IIIrd CS was awarded "Emerging Fintech Talent of the year". The award is an internationally recognised gold standard for excellence in the field of FinTech. SolarGridX team consisting of Hardik Bhatia (3rd year CS), Prashanth Konda (4th Year CS) and Yatharth Kher ( 3rd Year CS), tokenizes the ownership of solar panels to be traded as an investment commodity.
BPDC students stole the spotlight at the in5 Blockchain Challenge powered by Oracle & Emirates NBD, Dubai from September 27 - 28, 2019. The team comprising of Mridul Bhandari & Astrid Jerald worked on the Idea of Implementing Blockchain in Supply Chain Logistics. They received a cash price of AED 3,000 and will be part of Oracle's Unique Accelerator Program "Oracle for Startups".
BPDC students win first and second prizes at the Fintech 2.0 Hackathon organized by Department of Finance, Abu Dhabi during April 25-April 28th 2019. The following were the winning teams: 1st Prize - AED 20,000 - Team DoFchain (Prashanth Konda - 3rd year CS; Yatharth Kher - 2nd year CS; Hardik Bhatia - 2nd year CS). Team DoFChain worked out a solution on making the national budgeting process automated while reporting any flaws and secure using Blockchain, while team TracX built a Risk Analysis software for budgeting using AI and Blockchain technology. 2nd Prize - AED 15,000 - Team TracX (Georgio Sunil - 3rd year CS; Aamir Shakir - 3rd year CS; Abdul Raqeeb - 3rd year CS;Tanvir Singh Ahuja - 2nd year CS).
1st UAE University Blockchain Challenge Finals organised by Heriot Watt University in collaboration with Nem.io and Dubai Sillicon Oasis Authority on May 2nd 2019. The following were the winning teams: 1st Prize - AED 55,000 - Team AutoChain (Jaskanwar Singh - 3rd year CS; Sujith Sizon - 3rd year CS; Soumil Mittal - 3rd year CS; Jayant Panwar - 3rd year CS; Urvashi Satwani - 3rd year Chemical). 3rd Prize - AED 15,000 - Team SolarGridX (Jaskaran Singh Sethi- 1st year Chemical; Hardik Bhatia - 2nd year CS; Prashanth Konda - 3rd year CS; Gourisha Sethi- 2nd year CS).
9th Gulf Programming Contest (GPC): Three Computer Science students, Shaleen Bengani (IV CS), Mohammed Shoaib (III CS) and Shruti Arippara Vinodh (IV CS) secured the first place in the 9th Gulf Programming Contest held on 1st April 2019 at Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat, Oman. Dr Sujala D.Shetty served as the faculty coach for the team.
AI hackathon : IQPC is one of the biggest event management company in the world. They had recently organized MENA regions biggest AI hackathon. The hack was a 3-day event consisting of 30+ Teams participating in the preliminary round. The event took place from 3rd to 5th September 2018 in Park Hyatt,Dubai and was attended by visionaries from Companies like Microsoft, Accenture, Etisalat, PWC, and Infosys. Participation: First Prize: Mihir Prabhudesai, Juzar Gulamali and Dev Gupta; Mentor: Dr. Nand Kumar. Third Prize: Ankita Rane, Shivani Sathe & Anandi Sekhar, Mentor: Dr. Sujala D. Shetty. Award: 1st prize: Internships at Accenture, DEWA & Goodies. 3rd prize: Ipad Mini & Goodies from Dubai Muncipality.

The momentum surrounding the RISC-V Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) is growing on a global scale. SiFive, the company founded by the inventors of the RISC-V architecture, and BITS Pilani jointly hosted a RISC-V Tech Workshop on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at the Dubai campus of BITS Pilani. This was a highly educational hands-on workshop where attendees had the unique opportunity to configure their own RISC-V core and bring up on an FPGA.
