BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. J. Angel Arul Jothi received her Bachelor of Engineering Degree from Madras University. She received her Master of Technology and Ph.D. degree from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, College of Engineering Guindy, Anna University, Chennai in 2012 and 2017 respectively. Then, she joined as Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani, Dubai in 2017. She has served as teaching fellow at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, College of Engineering Guindy, Anna University, Chennai from 2012 to 2017. She has worked in the software industry as programmer from 2004 to 2006.
Dr. Angel has rich expertise in the area of image processing, computer vision, bioinformatics and natural language processing. Her research focuses on the design, development, and implementation of computer vision algorithms and language models that enable Artificial Intelligence systems to interpret and analyze visual and text data accurately. She has worked on various projects involving text summarization, topic modelling, object recognition, segmentation, classification, feature extraction, analyzing metagenomic data for disease prediction, biomarker discovery and classifier ensemble. She has hands-on experience in training, fine-tuning, and evaluating deep learning models like convolutional neural networks, U-Nets, Transformers, Recurrent neural networks, Transformers, Vision Transformers and their variants, Graph Neural Networks, Autoencoders etc., for various computer vision, bioinformatics and text-based tasks which involves conducting experiments, analyzing results, and iterating on algorithms to improve accuracy, efficiency, and robustness. She has knowledge in implementing computer vision algorithms using programming languages such as Python or MATLAB. She exhibits good collaborative skills to interact with cross-disciplinary teams, to integrate computer vision and text capabilities into AI systems. She has supervised 1 Ph.D, scholar and is also currently supervising 3 scholars. She has also supervised more than 10 undergraduate and postgraduate thesis students and had mentored several student projects. She has served as a reviewer for high impact journals and conferences. She has co-authored and published more than 50 journal and conference papers.
