Industrial Visits to Star Cement Co. LLC, Ras Al Khaimah, to understand the manufacturing process cement

The primary goal of the workshop conducted on 18 December 2023, was to introduce school students to various technical concepts, provide hands-on experience, and ignite an interest in the Internet of Things. The workshop is a part of an event called Youth Entrepreneurship Bootcamp (YEB), organized by BITS Pilani Dubai Campus, tailored for school students aimed to ignite entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and innovation among young minds. This program intended to provide foundational knowledge, practical skills, and mentorship to equip students with the tools required to conceptualize, develop, and launch their entrepreneurial ventures, fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship from a young age. The workshop session was organized by Prof Jagadish Nayak and Prof Nilesh Goel along with the senior students from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The IoT workshop for school students served as a catalyst for fostering innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit among young individuals. By providing foundational knowledge, practical skills, mentorship, and inspiration, the bootcamp empowered students to explore entrepreneurship, develop innovative ideas, and embark on their entrepreneurial journey, driving a culture of innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship from a young age and shaping the future leaders, innovators, and change-makers of tomorrow.

Fifty students participated in the workshop, which began with a quick overview of the Internet of Things and moved into a hands-on session. Every participant received a full Internet of Things kit, which included a Raspberry Pi, DHT-22 temperature sensors, connection cables, and other items.  By connecting the sensor and using Python programming, students have created an Internet of Things system that measures temperature and humidity and stores the data in an Adafruit cloud platform.  After learning about how the Internet of Things industry operates, students were able to view data on their smartphones remotely from any location.
