Dr. Chittaranjan Hota, Senior Professor of Computer Sc. at BITS, Hyderabad completed his Ph.D. from BITS, Pilani and has more than thirty three years of academic, research and administrative experience in Indian and universities abroad. His Ph.D. work was on QoS assurances in IP-Virtual Private Networks, a significant part of which was carried out at University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia during his visit to Network Research Laboratory at UNSW under Indo-Australian joint research program. Prior to Ph.D., he had earned B.E in Computer Engineering, and M.E in Computer Sc. and Engineering. He had been in merit through his bachelors & master's degrees in engineering.
Dr. Hota’s research interests include developing algorithms and models for building systems and applications in areas like Big-data analytics, Cognitive IoT, and Cyber security in which he has more than 140 publications, in various journals and conferences. He has guided more than 15 PhD students. He is currently working on building secure Bio-CPS devices under National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems with funding support from DST (GoI). In the past, he has executed funded projects with support from MeitY, DeitY, UGC, NWO (NL), Intel, Progress software, and TCS in the areas of Network threat monitoring, Code tamper-proofing on IoT devices, and building secure Peer-to-Peer overlays using Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning techniques.
Prof. Hota has also been involved in academic administration at BITS, Pilani over the past one and half decades. He is currently shouldering the responsibilities of Professor In-Charge (PIC), Entrance Exams at BITS, Pilani which is a university-wide role.
He had managed admissions to various degree programmes at BITS, Pilani Hyderabad Campus over five years as an Associate DEAN of Admissions. He had also managed admissions under international student admissions into three campuses of BITS, Pilani over five years. He was the founding HEAD of Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering (HOD) at BITS, Hyderabad for four years (2008-2012). He had also led a team of Network engineers in designing and commissioning the Campus Network and building other IT services at BITS, Hyderabad over the first 10 years of it's starting as Faculty-In-Charge (FIC) of Information Processing Centre (IPC). He had also been the founding FIC of the computer assisted housekeeping unit for 2 years in the formative years of BITS, Hyderabad where he was responsible for supporting institute wide payroll processing, and other HR functions. Dr. Hota was instrumental in formulating the ERP Roadmap for BITS, Pilani as its Task force leader under the University administration thrust area of BITS, Pilani's Mission 2012 project.
He has been a visiting researcher and visiting professor at University of New South Wales, Sydney; University of Cagliari, Italy; Helsinki Institute of Information Technology, Helsinki; Aalto University, Finland; University of Tartu, Estonia; City University, London and Vrije University, Amsterdam over the past two decades. He is recipient of Australian Vice Chancellors Committee award, twice recipient of Erasmus Mundus fellowship from European commission, and recipient of Certificate of Excellence from KRFE award from BITS, Pilani. He is a Senior Member of IEEE. He is also a member of ACM, CSI, IE and Life Member of ISTE.
