About the Faculty

Prof.Basavadatta Mitra, has about 25 years of teaching experience that includes Pre-PhD and Post-PhD teaching assignments in Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal(Universities of Calcutta and Jadavpur) and Goa.Presently, associated with BITS, Pilani KK Birla Goa Campus since April 2004,she has been teaching courses across disciplines –Social Sciences,Management,  ELT. Although born in Kolkata, West Bengal, a very Cross-Cultural exposure has provided her opportunities for a very niche experience from wherein she draws her examples in classroom teaching.

 She has about 25 inter/national publications of high repute and has completed a Major UGC Project :

Cross Cultural Communication-an Empirical Analysis in Indian Industries and Academia. She teaches a very niche course on Cross Cultural Skills,a course that is ,otherwise ,only taught in Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore .The course takes students on an introspective cultural journey that enables them to create a Cultural Prototype of themselves as an individual vis-a-vis-the culture of their professional space.The framework is the six dimensions of Gert Hofstede,the Dutch Professor and propounder of the concept of Cross Cultural Understanding
 
She is the ELT consultant for Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme,West Bengal(a Ministry of Human Resource and state government partnered programme) .In her capacity as a member of the Education Committee ,Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries for 14years (7th tenure in progress),she has been instrumental in introducing Project -based evaluation into the curriculum of  Technical Education(both Degree and Diploma) in the state of Goa.
 
She is a voracious reader,loves Western and India music and travels extensively to understand the myriad cultures of India and abroad.
