About the Faculty:

Prof. Sachin Waigaonkar is the Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering at BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus, with 24 years of experience in academia. He earned his Ph.D. in Polymer and Composite Processing from BITS Pilani (2011), a Master’s in Production Engineering from Government College of Engineering, Pune (2000), and a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from MGM’s College of Engineering, Nanded, Maharashtra (1998).

His research expertise includes polymeric materials, fiber-reinforced composites, and rotational molding, a key polymer processing method. Prof. Waigaonkar collaborates with the Society of Asian Rotomoulders and has been nominated by the Bureau of Indian Standards to develop standards for rotomolded underground septic tanks.

Having guided six Ph.D. students, Prof. Waigaonkar is currently mentoring one doctoral student from the industry. He has secured research funding from DST and UGC for projects on polymer nanocomposite processing. His work in advanced machining led to the patenting of the "Portable Handheld Electrochemical Discharge Machining Device," co-invented with Dr. Mukund Harugude and Dr. Nikhil Mane.

In addition, Prof. Waigaonkar served as Associate Dean of the Practice School Division at BITS Pilani Goa, fostering valuable university-industry collaborations.
