Dr. Woormileela Sinha joined our institute in May 2022 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry. During her doctoral research, in Dr. Sanjib Kar’s group, she designed and synthesized contracted porphyrinoids, corroles and further investigated the changes in the electronic, structural, and spectroscopic properties on electron transfer in metallocorroles. Dr. Sinha joined the research group of Prof. Zeev Gross at Technion-IIT with the prestigious Schulich fellowship and further continued as a Grand Technion Energy Program (GTEP) Fellow to explore electrocatalytic abilities, such as water oxidation by metallocorroles for energy-related purposes. Later, she moved to Irvine, California to pursue her post-doctoral research under the mentorship of Prof. A. (Andy) S. Borovik on bio-inorganic chemistry. At UC Irvine, she investigated the generation, and spectroscopic characterization of high-valent metal oxo-/hydroxo- centers within heterobimetallic complexes, as models for studying various naturally occurring catalytically active sites such as the oxygen evolving complex (OEC).
At her leisure, Dr. Sinha enjoys spending time with family, travelling, cooking, and listening to music.
