About the Faculty
Dr. Chatterjee joined the Mechanical Engineering Department of BITS Hyderabad as an Assistant Professor on September 4, 2023. He completed his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering with Honours from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur in 2016. Subsequently, he received his Master of Technology (MTech - Research) and PhD working in the field of cell and tissue biomechanics from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in February 2022. For his doctoral work, he has been Awarded the ‘The Institute Medal (2021-22)’ for best PhD thesis in the Centre for Biosystems Science and Engineering (BSSE), IISC by the Council of the Institute. Following his PhD, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, at Purdue University, USA working on multiscale biomechanics of ovine knee joint and tissues for a little more than one and a half years, before joining BITS Hyderabad. His research interests lie broadly in the area of (but not limited to) mechanical characterization and constitutive modelling of soft and biological materials, multiscale mechanics of cells, tissues and bioinspired materials, and role of mechanics in the growth and remodeling of living systems.
