P.K. Sahoo earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Sambalpur University, India, in January 2004. He is currently a Professor at BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad Campus.
He was awarded the Transilvania Fellowship in March 2023 and served as a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Mathematics & Computer Science, Transilvania University of Brasov, Romania, from May 23 to July 22, 2023. He received the Prof. S. Venkateswaran Faculty Excellence Award (2022) from BITS-Pilani in recognition of his outstanding academic contributions.
Prof. Sahoo has been consistently ranked among the top 2% of scientists from India in Nuclear & Particle Physics by Stanford University (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024). He is also an Associate Member of IUCAA, Pune. In January 2025, he was elected as a member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), and from April 1, 2025, he serves as a Council Member of the Indian Mathematical Society (IMS) for a three-year term.
He serves as the Editor of International Journal of Geometric Methods in Modern Physics and Open Physics, Review Editor of Frontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, and a Topic Editorial Board Member of Universe.
His research focuses on theoretical cosmological models in modified gravity theories. He has supervised eight Ph.D. scholars and currently mentors ten doctoral students. His extensive publication record includes over 250 research articles in leading peer-reviewed journals such as Astrophysical Journal (ApJ), Astronomy & Astrophysics (A&A), MNRAS, Physical Review D, Physics Letters B, JCAP, Physics of the Dark Universe, EPJC, CQG, Annalen der Physik, IJMPD, EPJP, Results in Physics, and Fortschritte der Physik, among others.
He has also been recognized for his contributions to scientific peer review. He received the Reviewer Excellence Award (2019) from the Indian Academy of Sciences, India, was named a Distinguished Referee for Europhysics Letters (EPL) by the European Physical Society (EPS) in 2023, and was honored as an Outstanding Reviewer for the Canadian Journal of Physics in 2023.
