The Department of Mechanical Engineering at BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus inaugurated the BIOMADE (Biomechanics for Medical & Assistive Device Engineering) Lab, a state-of-the-art facility for research in human movement, rehabilitation, and assistive technology.

The inauguration was led by Prof. Suman Kundu, Director of BITS Pilani Goa Campus. Prof. Sachin Waigaonkar, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, welcomed the guests, including Dr. Mahendra Kudchadkar from Healthway Hospital, along with faculty and students.

To mark National Biomechanics Day, which is globally celebrated, the department also hosted an outreach event for the students from The Kingโs School, Margao. The event featured interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities to introduce school children to the exciting world of biomechanics and its applications in assistive and medical device design.

Prof. Ganesh Bapat, who heads the BIOMADE lab, thanked the Vissco Healthcare for funding the Biomechanics outreach initiative. He emphasized that the goal is to create interest and awareness among school children about alternative career paths in interdisciplinary fields like Biomechanics. The event was a resounding success and fostered meaningful engagement between the BITS students and the local student community.
