Department of Chemistry of BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus hosted ‘Nano Jatha’ on 26th July 2024, in association with Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), Bengaluru and Karnataka Science & Technology Promotions Society (KSTePS).
It was a curtain raiser event to the 13th edition of the Bengaluru India Nano 2024 which is scheduled during 1-3 August 2024 in Bengaluru. The Nano Jathas are planned in select places across India to create awareness about nanoscience and technology via technical talks delivered by the experts and live experimental demonstrations.
The Goa event was attended by over 150 enthusiastic participations of Bachelors, and Masters students from various colleges across Goa such as St. Xavier’s College, Dhempe College of Arts & Science, Dnyanprassarak Mandal's College and Research Centre, P.E.S’s R.S.N College of Arts & Science, Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Quepem, St. Joseph’s Vaz College and Goa University, along with the students of BITS Pilani.
During the inauguration, Prof. Kiran Vankayala, Faculty and Prof. Bhavana, P. Head of the Department, Chemistry, BITS Pilani Goa Campus welcomed the gathering. Later on, Dr. H. S. S. Ramakrishna Matte, Scientist from CeNS and Prof. Meenal Kowshik, Dean – Administration and Professor of Biological Sciences at BITS Pilani Goa Campus delivered outstanding lectures on fascinating aspects of Nanoscience, Nanotechnology and role of Nanoscience in Biotechnology, respectively.
The second half of the event had eight experimental demonstrations, where live shows on recent applications of Nanoscience were demonstrated to the participants. Following to this, a quiz was conducted to student participants and prizes were given to the quiz winners during the valedictory function. Vote of thanks were proposed by Prof. Halan Prakash of Department of Chemistry. The event concluded with distribution of participation certificates to all the participants.
