Overview

Eligibility for admission

M.E/M.Pharm./MBA/ M.Phil of BITS or its equivalent with a minimum of 60% aggregate.

  • Candidate with an M Sc/B.E or an equivalent with a minimum of 60% will also be considered for provisional admission to the Ph D programme.
  • For Ph D programme in languages and humanities, candidates with an M.Phil/M A and with minimum of 55% aggregate may also be considered. Such candidates have to undergo a minimum of two semester course work prescribed by DRC.
  • Prospective candidate should be a foreign National i.e. he/she must be holding a passport of a country other than India.
  • English Language Proficiency: Candidates applying for Ph.D. Programme may need to provide proof of English language proficiency through tests like TOEFL or IELTS.

Candidates admitted under this scheme will work full time toward their Ph D research and will not take any other assignment till the submission of final thesis.

 

Admission Modality

A candidate is normally admitted to the Ph.D. programme after passing his/her Ph.D. qualifying examination. A few candidates may be admitted to the programme as provisional candidates before passing the Ph.D. qualifying examination. This provision is applicable to full time research scholars on the campus.

Accommodation

All full time students will be accommodated in student hostel.

Leave

Each “Full- Time” candidate is eligible for 30 days of vacation and 15 days of casual leave in an academic year (August to July).

  • Special casual leave of 15 days is permissible for attending conferences/workshop/symposiums/training programmes, etc.
  • For female candidates, maternity leave of 90 days is permitted.

Duration of Ph.D.

A student have to submit his/her thesis within ten semesters (excluding summer terms) to be counted from the semester next to passing the qualifying examination. Thus, the duration for submitting final thesis (including all extensions and semester withdrawals) are limited to 14 semesters. The female students who have availed maternity leave during this period may be given one extra semester for thesis submission.

Financial Assistance:

Full-time Ph.D. students admitted into the Ph.D. Programme are eligible to be considered for fellowship of Rs 34,000/- or Rs 37,000/- per month as per intake qualifications. Consideration for fellowship will be as per Institute norms, details of which are available in the PhD brochure on the admission website. It will be obligatory on the part of every admitted full time student to undertake 8 hours (per week) of work as assigned to her/him by the Institute.
