About the Faculty
Ajit Pratap Singh presently working as a Senior Professor of Civil Engineering Department and Dean, Academic-Undergraduate Studies at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani)-Pilani Campus, Rajasthan. Professor Ajit Pratap Singh received Civil Engineering degrees from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani)-Pilani, Rajasthan, India and is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) and Fellow of Indian Association of Hydrologists (FIAH).
He has published over 125 papers and reports. He has also served as the Professor and Head of Department, Civil Engineering, BITS Pilani-Dubai Campus, UAE for 2 years from September 2015 to August 2017. He has more than 28 years of teaching and research experience in the area of sustainable water resources management, hydraulics and water resources engineering with a special focus on surface water-quality modeling and advanced computer applications: water quality and quantity assessment, water pollution analysis, solid waste management, prediction and management of surface waters, and groundwater contaminant transport modelling, climate change, pavement management systems, soft computing techniques, fuzzy-based decision making, and simulation and modelling.
Prof. Singh has taught as many as 25 different courses of Civil Engineering such as Hydrology & Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydraulics and Fluid Mechanics, Water and Wastewater Treatment, Waste Management Systems, Environmental Pollution Control, Transportation Engineering, Transport Phenomena I, Pavement Analysis and Design, Pavement Material Characterization, Engineering Optimization, Geographical Information Systems and so on. Time to time Dr. Ajit has also been delivering invited talks for various training programmes and workshops. Prof Singh has guided 10 doctoral Thesis and over 50 Master’s Dissertations/Thesis and currently guiding 4 PhD students in research areas of real-life importance. He has completed 5 sponsored projects in different fields of civil engineering and working on two ongoing projects in the area of water resources engineering and societal development. He has also been actively involved in various consultancy projects related to water quality assessment, water pollution analysis, prediction and management of surface waters, and groundwater contaminant transport modelling, traffic safety of National highways, etc. He is a fellow of Institution of Engineers (India), Fellow of Indian Association of Hydrologists (FIAH), member of Indian Society of Hydraulics, Indian Water Works Association (IWWA), and Institution of Public Health Engineers, India, and Member of Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies (EASTS), Japan etc. He has been actively involved in reviewing various research papers submitted in his area of research to more than 20 Journals of International and National repute.
Dr. Singh is also member of Senate and many Board of Studies at different Universities, Member of Research Board/Doctoral Advisory Committees in a number of Universities, Advisory committee member of University Grant Commission, Expert Member in Public Service Commissions of Himanchal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Expert Selection Committee member of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, third-party expert for various projects under JNNURM, PMGSY, PWD, NHAI, PCI verification schemes funded by Central and state governments, working group expert member of National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee, Government of India etc. University Grant Commission, New Delhi had also appointed him as an External Member of Advisory Committee, Special Assistance Programme (SAP), UGC, Department of Civil Engineering, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh during 2012-2017. He has also worked as commissioner appointed by the Hon’ble National Green Tribunal, New Delhi for assessing status of environment quality in different rivers and Common effluent treatment plants.
He is an expert member of the State Level Environment Appraisal Committee (SEAC) in Rajasthan to examine environmental issues before clearing developmental projects proposed in Rajasthan after the notification in the Gazette of India (Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Very recently, he has also been appointed as a member of the Technical Appraisal Committee (TAC) under provisions of the National Plan for Conservation of Aquatic Eco-system (NPCA), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India and Expert member, UGC Committee to draft Standard Operating Procedures for implementing Multiple Entry and Exit in Academic Programmes in Higher Education under NEP 2020, University Grant Commission, New Delhi.
