Dr. Avinash Gautam is currently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems Engineering in BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus since 2017. Prior 2017, he worked with BITS Pilani as a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems Engineering from 2009-2017. Before joining BITS as a faculty he worked with Symantec Software Pvt. Ltd., Pune, as a software developer in security technology and response group from 2008-2009.

He has completed a sponsored research project from Center for Artificial Intelligence, and Robotics (CAIR) titled "Multi-agent based Indoor Exploration with Miniature Robots" as a Co-PI. He received an internal research grant viz. "Additional Competetive Research Grant" from BITS Pilani for a research project titled "Exploiting background information for efficient coordination of Multi-Robot Systems dispatched for service delivery in an indoor environment,".

He was selected for Sakura Science Scholarship administered by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and was hosted by Hiroshima University Japan in 2015. This program was sponsored entirely by the Government of Japan. Under this program, he has spent 20 days in Robotics Laboratory of Hiroshima University Studying High-Speed Robot Vission and its applications.
