Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus
After completing BSc and MSc in Chemistry from Calcutta University (RKMRC, Narendrapur) and IIT Bombay, respectively, Dr. Jana joined the group of Prof. Andreas Heuer at the University of Muenster, Germany, in August 2010 as a Ph.D. candidate and received the degree in March 2015. Before joining as an assistant professor at BITS Pilani in February 2022, Dr. Jana worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Goettingen, Germany, Free University of Brussels, Belgium, and Aalto University, Finland.
Our focus lies in the comprehensive exploration of soft and biomaterials through the lens of multiscale modeling methodologies. A profound grasp of soft matter systems is indispensable, given their broad spectrum of practical applications. Our primary objective is to elucidate and interpret various phenomena manifesting at molecular scales utilizing computational modeling techniques.
We specialize in crafting tailored molecular models and computational methodologies to delve into the intricacies of soft matter systems. We refine molecular dynamics (MD), Monte Carlo (MC), and free energy calculation methods by leveraging classical mechanics, statistical mechanics, and condensed matter physics/chemistry. Additionally, we harness ab initio techniques like density functional theory to further our understanding.
By amalgamating these techniques, we endeavor to unravel the complexities of molecular interactions and dynamics complexities, paving the way for novel insights and advancements in fundamental science and practical applications.
