About INSPIRE Lab

Embedded Systems and Robotics Lab a.k.a INSPIRE Lab (Integrated Swarm Planning and Intelligent Robotic Engineering) is a research laboratory in the Dept. of Computer, BITS Pilani. Current research areas involve:
  1. Design and development of distributed algorithms for unknown area exploration/coverage using multiple mobile robots.
  2. Design and development of a wearable visual assistant for autonomous navigation of a blind and visually impaired person in an unfamiliar larger indoor spaces and buildings.
  3. Semantic feature recognition and recommendation system for the blind and visually impaired person.
  4. Data caching techniques in Internet of Things (IoT) networks for efficient utilization of resources.
The lab is equipped with mobile robots, sensors, actuators, embedded system boards and computers for experimental validation of the the proposed techniques.

Admissions

We are looking for strongly motivated, research-oriented students (preferably, though not mandatorily, ones with prior experience) who would participate in our research and contribute to it. Students will have a fair chance of getting their work published in reputed conferences and journals.

Desired Skills

  • Motivation to pursue research in the area of distributed computing, mobile robotics, machine vision, and IoT.
  • Proficiency in data structures, C/C++/python programming languages. Good grades in courses such as OOP, DSA, Network programming, Data mining, Machine learning, Operation research (if you have taken any of these courses)
  • Excellent analytical skills, aptitude, and reasoning ability.
  • Willingness to put in long hours of work in order to arrive at a solution to a problem.

How to apply

Interested First Degree students may apply for a formal project (SOP/COP/LOP) and FD thesis.
Interested Higher Degree students may apply for RP/SAT/Dissertation.

In case of any queries, feel free to visit the lab (6014-B), or write a mail to Dr. Avinash Gautam (avinash@pilani.bits-pilani.ac.in).
